Busy Busy

Half-term, a time to relax, phew... Or not.

In the last 10 days, I've worked twice, been to Glasgow for a concert and been to Norway for a week. So you'd think that I would be exhausted right? Surprisingly though I woke up this morning feeling fully refreshed and full of a new energy!
Here are some highlights:

- Being right at the front barrier for the You Me At Six and All Time Low co-headline tour concert in Glasgow. It doesn't get much better than seeing your favourite bands perform live only metres away, without trying to crane your neck around the only 6.5ft person in the crowd - who of course is standing right in front of you - getting someone else's hair in your mouth, not being able to breath properly and having a cripplingly sore back by the end of the concert. And who knew the security guards at the stage would be so much fun? Incredible music and a great night overall!

- Night skiing! So this is something I've always wanted to do and was able to try when in Geilo, Norway last week. The slopes were partially flood-lit meaning that your view of the snow was sketchy at best and there was an amazing view of the lights of the town in the valley below. Flying down the slopes at night felt faster due to the poorer visibility and I felt an extra adrenaline kick as I couldn't be sure of what the slope beneath my skis would do next. The stars and a beautiful new moon were out above, adding to the 'wow' factor of the moment.

On the last night we went Nordic skiing in the evening. (This differs from downhill skiing because it's predominantly on the flat, you use different skis and poles and your heel is detached from the ski). We skied across a frozen lake, which I can tell you now, that feeling the ice rumble beneath you and knowing that if it gives way you are unlikely to make it across like they do in the films, is nothing short of terrifying. Even knowing that the ice is metres thick, doesn't feel reassuring at the time. Gliding smoothly along the lake-side, getting into a good rhythm, feeling exhilarated from properly exercising and breathing in the chilly air, all once more under a brilliantly clear and starry night, felt somewhat surreal.

-I also got the chance to properly improve my snowboarding. As a skier of 14 years, snowboarding has been very hard to get to grips with! With more time to spend on the slopes than at home and a proper lesson from a (rather cute) instructor, I've finally managed to figure out the right techniques, begin to nail the turns and start to pick up speed.

2 years until I'll next get to ski/board but I'm already looking forward to it!
